about

Hello friend,

The Society of Orpheus and Bacchus has at last completed the long process of bringing an album into the world, and lo! we bequeath it unto you. We have affectionately christened it "Some Pig!" While its title may convey adequately the deep and profound silliness of the group, the SOBs are not known for subtlety; therefore, you may note a promounced dearth of solemnity throughout. Sweet Honey in the Rock, this ain't. It is pure SOB.

The group's foundations sit on a bedrock of choral singing and barbershop harmony. Our earliest arrangements date back to the late 1930's, and while over the years, the scope of our repertoire has gradually expanded, it always seems to do so in a way that complements and pays homage to our past. The track listing for Some Pig! exemplifies this synthetic but pleasantly cohesive fusion of old and new, of four chord pop songs arranged with barbershop aplomb, of good taste made slightly, well, tastier. Please enjoy Some Pig!

Initially, the group went without a name until they capitalized on a backhanded compliment received at a party—“These SOBs are good!”— invoking the talents of Orpheus, minstrel to Olympus, and the legacy of Bacchus, god of revelry, to form the SOBs. ... more
